Business Continuity Planning (BCP)

A Business Continuity Plan (BCP) is a strategic framework that ensures your organization can continue operating during and after a disruptive event. In cybersecurity, a BCP is particularly vital for mitigating risks associated with cyberattacks, data breaches, ransomware and system failures in order to ensure that critical business functions remain operational despite disruptions.

A BCP helps you to safeguard your operations against unforeseen disruptions with the intent to minimize downtime during cyberattacks, natural disasters, or system failures, protect financial operations by reducing revenue loss and mitigating financial risks associated with prolonged outages, as well as to maintain regulatory compliance to meet industry standards and legal requirements. And, sometimes what is most important, it helps with reputation management to maintain customer trust by demonstrating preparedness and reliability.

Some Challenges in completing and maintaining an effective BCP

Maintaining a working and comprehensive BCP can be challenging for organizations due to a variety of reasons. Sometimes it is limited in-house cybersecurity and risk management specialists or there is no process or the tools to properly complete, document and implement their BCP. Resource constraints of time, personnel, and financial investment, complexity of business operations and the continuously evolving threat landscape requiring continuous updates to the BCP can also make it difficult for organizations to keep a strong BCP in place.

OBETEC Services:

Our standard offering includes a three-phase process to generate a working BCP for your organization:

  • Phase I – Business Impact Analysis provides a prioritized understanding of key organization functions and solutions with defined Recovery Time Objectives (RTOs) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPOs).

  • Phase II - Generation of the BCP includes identifying the key business resiliency roles within the organization, step-by-step processes during and after a disaster, crisis communication guidance, natural and man-made scenario checklists, and contact information.

  • Phase II – System Recovery Procedures including System Recovery Procedures (Runbooks) identifying all critical information needed to recover on a system-by-system basis, all systems identified in prior phases as critical to the organization’s operations.
